The JPO announced on July 16, 2021 in its website that patent registration and maintenance fees would be raised as of April 1, 2022 as a result of a 2021 revision of the Patent Law (Law No. 42 of July 16, 2021). Other official fees such as application, request for examination, or appeal fees, however, will remain as they are now while fees related to PCT international patent applications are to be raised.

In addition to the fee rises above, fees related to PCT international patent applications and trademark applications will also be raised while fees related to utility models will remain the same.
