Recent usage of the patent opposition system

Regarding the patent opposition system introduced in April 2015, the JPO announced that 405 opposition cases had been filed with the JPO up to January 12, 2016. According to classification of subject patent by International Patent Classification (IPC), the opposition cases are classified as follows:

A section (human necessities): 105 cases
B section (performing operations, transporting): 65 cases
C section (chemistry, metallurgy): 117 cases
D section (Textiles, Paper): 11 cases
E section (Fixed Constructions): 10 cases
F section (Mechanical Engineering, Lighting, Heating, Weapons): 20 cases
G section (Physics): 28 cases
H section (Electricity): 49 cases
